September 2025 Visa Bulletin Update

Green Card status update: F2A moves forward, while EB-2 and EB-3 categories face retrogression risk due to high demand and visa cap limits.

What Is the Visa Bulletin?

The Visa Bulletin is a monthly publication by the U.S. Department of State that outlines which immigrant visa categories can move forward in the green card process. It includes two key charts:

Dates for Filing: When applicants may prepare and submit their application packages.

Final Action Dates: When green cards can actually be approved and issued.

What Changed in September 2025?

F2A – Spouses and Children of Green Card Holders

The filing date advanced by two months:

  • April 1, 2025 → June 1, 2025

  • This allows applicants to file earlier than before, providing a faster pathway for family reunification.

EB-2 and EB-3 – Employment-Based Green Cards

While the dates remain unchanged, the bulletin includes a warning:

  • USCIS has announced that visa numbers in these categories are nearly exhausted.

  • There’s a strong chance these categories may be marked as “Unavailable” in October or even earlier.

Why Does It Matter?

  • Earlier filing gives you a head start in your green card journey.

  • A possible cutoff or retrogression could pause or delay your application.

  • Submitting Adjustment of Status (Form I-485) with an ineligible priority date may result in rejection or delay.

What Should You Do?

  • F2A applicants: Take advantage of the forward movement and prepare your application now.

  • EB-2 and EB-3 applicants: Contact your attorney and file before any potential cutoff.

  • DV-2025 lottery winners: September is your last chance to finalize your green card – don’t miss the deadline.
